Fabrics We Use
KANTHA
At its core, Kantha is a craft of transformation — the art of turning the old into something entirely new.
Kantha is a traditional embroidery technique from the Indian subcontinent, recognized by its many rows of short, continuous running stitches. Practiced for centuries, this handwork has long been used by women in rural communities to layer and stitch together worn cotton saris and discarded textiles, creating new cloth imbued with history and care.
The rhythmic running stitch often forms intricate patterns and motifs, resulting in textiles that are richly textured, visually striking, and entirely unique.
Each Kantha is one of a kind — no two alike in print, color, or story.
VINTAGE KANTHA
Our vintage Kantha pieces are crafted from rare, reversible Kantha blankets.
Multiple layers of well-loved cotton saris are carefully stacked and hand-stitched together using the traditional Kantha technique. The result is a textile that carries the marks of time, memory, and craftsmanship.
Each jacket is fully reversible and entirely one of a kind — a singular garment made to be worn, lived in, and passed on.
SUZANI
Suzani is a traditional form of decorative needlework originating from Central Asia.
Historically created as large embroidered panels, Suzani textiles are known for their bold scale, vibrant color, and intricate symbolic patterns. In our collection, Suzani embroidery is either machine-embroidered onto a vintage Kantha base or hand-embroidered on cotton by skilled Indian artisans.
Each piece reflects a dialogue between heritage technique and contemporary design.
BAGRU
Bagru refers to a traditional hand-block printing technique from the village of Bagru in Rajasthan.
This centuries-old process uses hand-carved wooden blocks and natural dyes to create repeating patterns on cloth. The method is deeply rooted in sustainability, relying on low-impact materials and time-honored skill.
At Woman To Women, Bagru printing is often applied to reclaimed Kantha textiles, giving new life to old cloth through careful, intentional design.
KALA COTTON
Kala cotton is one of the oldest varieties of cotton in the world.
Indigenous to India, it grows naturally with rainwater alone — requiring no irrigation or chemicals — making it entirely organic and earth-friendly. The fiber is handspun and handwoven, resulting in a cloth that is beautifully textured, breathable, and remarkably durable.
Kala cotton celebrates simplicity, resilience, and sustainability at its purest.
KHADI COTTON
Khadi cotton is handspun and handwoven using traditional spinning wheels and handlooms.
Known for its lightness, breathability, and subtle irregularities, Khadi reflects the beauty of slow, manual production. Every step of the process supports rural artisans and preserves generations of textile knowledge.
This fabric carries both comfort and conscience.
MULBERRY SILK
Mulberry silk is the finest variety of silk, produced by silkworms that feed exclusively on mulberry leaves.
Renowned for its smooth hand feel and gentle sheen, mulberry silk becomes even more expressive when handwoven. The fabric often retains a natural, softly wrinkled texture that adds movement and character.
Luxurious yet grounded, it is silk in its most honest form.
